A Yarra River bridge to be named for Carlo

The 'In Town and Out' column in the Herald on April 26, 1926, had the following short report on a suggestion that a bridge over the Yarra River should be named for Carlo. This was eight years after his death, so an indication that he was still remembered fondly in Victoria.

A Correspondent suggests that one of the bridges over the Yarra, existing or to be constructed, should be named the Catani bridge, in honor of the engineer who in his lifetime took such an active interest in the beautification and preservation of the banks of the Yarra.

The suggestion will, no doubt, recommend itself to many citizens of Melbourne who are aware of the public service rendered by Mr Catani. It was no chance that gave his name to the lake at Mt. Buffalo. He loved the plateau, and was always planning to improve it as a pleasure resort.

One hundred years after this brilliant suggestion, there is still not a bridge over the Yarra River named after Carlo.  There is a town, a lake, the aforementioned gardens at St Kilda and some streets named for Carlo, but he deserves a bridge as well. The closest we have is the Catani Archway in the Catani Gardens at St Kilda, but  it is a pedestrian bridge, not a vehicular one.  I have written, in conjunction with my colleague Isaac Hermann,  about this archway here - https://victoriancollections.net.au/stories/carlo-catani-an-engineering-star-over-victoria/st-kilda-foreshore-gardens
